CT Diagnosis of Primary Benign Retroperitoneal Tumors

Objective To evaluate the CT diagnostic value of primary benign retroperitoneal tumors.Methods The CT findings of 25 cases of primary benign retroperitoneal tumors proved by operation and pathology were analyzed retrospectively.All cases were performed by CT plain and enhanced scanning and were managed with MPR and MIP reconstruction,10 cases with 3-D reconstruction in workstation.Results 13 were neurogenic tumors,6 were mesenchymal tumors,3 were rudimental embryonal tumors and 3 were other types.The accuracy in localization and nature of benignity or malignancy was 80%(20/25) and 76%(19/25) respectively.Conclusion The CT scan has significant value in localizable and qualitative diagnosis,especially in differentiating diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of primary benign retroperitoneal tumors.
