Abstract

Objective To study the expression of IL-33 in asthmatic children, and to investigate the effects of IL-33 on lung inflammation. Methods Thirty asthmatic children(asthma group) and 30 healthy as control(control group) were collected.Serum and induced sputum from the asthmatic children and control group were collected and the level of IL-33 in the samples was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The levels of IL-4,IL-5 and IL-13 in serum were also detected by ELISA.After treatment with inhalation of seretide(50/250) one month, the expression of IL-33,IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in serum were detected by ELISA again. Results IL-33,IL-4,IL-5 and IL-13 levels in serum of asthma group were significantly higher than that of control group(P 0.05 ).After treatment with inhalation of seretide(50/250) one month, the expression of IL-33,IL-4,IL-5 and IL-13 in serum of the asthmatic children were significantly decreased (P 0.05).Tight correlation between IL-33 and IL-4,IL-5 and IL-13 was identified(r =0.8926,r =0.8996,r = 0.9320,P 0.01).Conclusion It indicate that IL-33 is highly expressed in asthmatic children, and the highly expression of IL-33 was tightly correlation with inflammatory factors IL-4,IL-5 and IL-13,so that IL-33 can promote airway inflammation in asthmatic children. Thus presents a promising strategy for the treatment of asthma.
