Abstract
The comparative pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime and cefo- perazone was performed in six heallhy Chinese male adults in a crossover design,A single dose of 1. 0 gram of either ceftazidime or cefoperazone was givenintravenously. The serum data of both drugs fitted a two-compartment open mo-del. The mean apparent volumes of distribution(Vd)of ceftazidime and cefopera-zone were 16. 05 and 11.95 litres respectively. The mean biological half-lifeof ceftazidime was 1. 93 hr. and cefoperazone 2. 07 hr. respectively. Although themean serum levels of ceftazidime were lower than that of cefoperazone, in aview of concentration-effect relationship, the effective serum level of ceftazi-dime against E. coli and K1. pneumoniae lasted much longer than that of cefo-perazone.
