Abstract
Ultrasonic cavitation is one of predominant mechanisms in high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment. Efficiently-induced ultrasonic cavitation can be used to increase the coagulated volume and enhance the therapeutic efficiency of HIFU. Recent studies have shown that microbubble contrast agents are important factors in enhancing the therapeutic efficiency of HIFU. They have potential to act as cavitation nuclei and are likely to lower the tissue damage threshold and cause a greater coagulated volume.Along with the development of HIFU efficiency enhancement studies, HIFU will be more effective and powerful in clinical tumor treatment.
