Abstract

Objective To investigate the different effects on shape of ankle fossa, we cut bones with the same length from fibula of different positions. It will provide reference for clinical surgeon using fibula reasonably to select the best section. Methods Eight adult male cadaveric specimens long 172 cm-176 cm were used.We cut fibula long 10 cm proximally at the lower point 1/6, lower point 1/4, lower point 1/3, middle point 1/2 respectively, which was compared with the normal one to analyze the changes in the shape of ankle fossa. Results Under the condition of cut at the lower point 1/6, the ankle fossa changed shallowly and broadly, thus it had a great effect on stability of ankle. In contrast, under the condition of cut fibula long 10 cm proximally at the middle point 1/2, thus it had a little effect on stability of ankle joint. Conclusion sThe best position of cut fibula is in the proximity of the fibula at the point 1/2.
