Abstract

Objective To explore the value of ERCP in diagnosis of obstructive jaundice. Methods The results of ERCP in 526 patients with obstructive jaundice were analyzed. Results There were 506 cases success- fully diagnosed by ERCP and the successful rate was 96%.Among the patients,460 were accurately defined and the rate of accuracy was 91%.About 56% of the patients with obstructive jaundice had intraphepatic and extra- hepatic duct stones. The occurring rate of ERCP complications was 3.4%.Conclusions ERCP is a reliable method to define the causes of obstructive jaundice.Though the first choice for diagnosis of obstructive jaundice is BUS,ERCP should also be used if it is possible.
