Abstract
High speed dynamic photoelastic apparatus is an available diagnostic tool of the dynamic photoelastic Investigation. It is mainly used to record stress patterns of various structures loaded dynamically at different times; investigate propagating history of stress wave, examine development process of crack and high speed deformation of objects and so on.The dynamic photoelastic apparatus usually used multiple electric sparks as light sources. An assembly composed of static photoelastic apparatus and high speed rotating mirror framing camera was used on abroad. A system which was made up of a static photoelastic apparatus, a schlieren system and high speed rotating mirror framing camera was set up and applied by us. The stress patterns of various photoelastic models loaded dynamically have been attained, by using Xenon Flash Lamp and monochromatic circular polarization light field. The propagating process of the stress wave and stress collection phenomena around the hole were obtained. The system has some advantages: high framing rate and high measurement sensitivity. It is also convenient for the system to apply to large photoelastic models set in long distance from camera and under shock loading. There is a reflecting or a transmitting optical system to be supplied for us. Therefore, an available measuring technique has been provided for the dynamic photoelastic investigation.
