Abstract

Freshly formed Fe/Mn oxide was prepared by FeSO4 and KMnO4 to remove phosphorus. The phosphorus removal efficiencies of Fe2(SO4)3 and FeSO4/KMnO4 coagulation processes were compared, and the factors affecting phosphorus removal by FeSO4/KMnO4 were investigated. The results show that the phosphorus removal efficiency of FeSO4/KMnO4 is better than that of Fe2(SO4)3 under the same conditions. When the dosage of Fe is 5 mg/L,the phosphorus removal rates of FeSO4/KMnO4 and Fe2(SO4)3 are 90.2% and 82.3% respectively. The optimum molar ratio of KMnO4 to FeSO4 is 0.33.The phosphorus removal efficiency of FeSO4/KMnO4 increases with the increase of Fe2+ dosage and decreases with the increase of initial TP concentration and pH.The removal rate of phosphorus by FeSO4/KMnO4 has no significant variation when the coagulation time increases from 10 min to 60 min.
