Abstract

Objective: To explore the mechanism of arsenic in skin injury, the effect of arsenic on lipid peroxidation(LP) in skin of rats was studied by subchronic experiments. Methods: The 40 rats were randomly separated into four groups including control group(C),low dose arsenic poisoning group(L),middle dose arsenic poisoning group(M),and high dose arsenic poisoning group(H).Rats of control group were fed with distilled water.Rats in group L,group M and group H were fed with water which was dissolved with sodium arsenic at the concentrations of 12.5 mg/L,25 mg/L and 50 mg/L respectively. After three months, the animals were sacrificed and a series of biochemical indices were detected in skin. Results: The results showed that with the increases of exposure levels of arsenic, the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) in low, middle and high dose groups were decreased strikingly after three months(P0.05).While the level of malonaldehyed(MDA) was significantly increased than the group C(P0.05).Conclusions: It indicated that arsenic could induce LP in skin of rats.LP might be one of the mechanisms of skin injury in arsenic poisoning.
