Abstract

Objective To detect the expression of P27 protein and Ki 67 antigen in astrocytic tumors. Methods S P immunohistochemical analysis was used. Results (1) The expression of P27 in astrocytic tumors (LI mean=27 4%) was remarkablely weaker than that in non tumor brain tissues (LI mean=68 8%). The intensify of P27 staining was stronger in tumors with lower grade of malignancy. (2) In astrocytic tumors, a significant negative correlation (r=-0 86, P0 01) is observed between the P27 and Ki 67 labeling indexes(LI). Conclusions The decreased P27 protein expression might play a important role in the genesis and development of astrocytic tumors. Immunohistochemical analysis of P27 might be useful in deciding the grade of malignancy of astrocytic tumors.
