Abstract

Objective To study the clinical significance of serum level of pepsinogen-I(PG-I) determination in early gastric cancer and postoperative observation. Methods The latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric assay was applied to detect serum level of PG-I in 86 patients with gastric cancer,70 patients with gastric ulcer,98 patients with atrophic gastritis,106 normal persons and 82 postoperative patients with gastric cancer.Their clinical data were collected and analyzed. Results In comparison with normal persons, the serum levels of PG-I in patients with atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer were decreased, and serum level of PG-I in patients with recurrence of gastric cancer after operation was almost as same as the level before operation, and it was obviously lower than that of postoperative patients without recurrence. Conclusion For early screening of gastric cancer, the determination of serum level of PG-I can offer a reliable indicator for clinical diagnosis and treatment. After the gastrotomy in patients with gastric cancer, the determination of serum level of PG-I is the most ideal tracking and monitoring indicator for the recurrence of gastric cancer.
