Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the factors related to sympathetic ophthalmia. Methods:The deta of pathology of enucleated exciting eyeballs and the histories of the 47 patients were reviewed retrospectively. Results:Sympathetic ophthalmia occurred mostly in younger persons, and the most common causes were ocular perforating injuries, especially at the corneoscleral limbus.Latent periods of 2~8 weeks were more common.Pathologically, the choroid incrassated from posterior to anterior gradually. Conclusions:The incidence of symathetic ophthalmia is related to age and ocular perforating injury.Sympathetic ophthalmia may be diagnosed definitely by pathologic examination.
