Abstract
Hollow polymer latex particles containing a hydrophilic core were prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization, followed by stepwise treatment with ammonia, with MAA /BA/MMA/ST as comonomers. The distribution and morphology of latex particles was determined by Malvern laser particle analyzer and TEM.The effects of the monomer feeding rate, emulsifier dosage used, carboxylated monomer and cross-linking agent content on the polymerization stability, core latex size and hollow particles structure were investigated. The results show that the optimum content of acid monomer in the preparation of seed latex particles is about 20%~40%,emulsifier is about 0.9%~1.2% and cross-linking agent is about 0.5%~1.0%,and the obtained polymer particles with this condition have an excellent hollow structure.
