Abstract
The color reaction of 2-(5-nitro-2-pridylazo)-5-methylaminoaniline ( 5-NO_(2)-PADMA) with copper was studied .Copper reacts with 5-NO_(2)-PADMA to form a stable purple complex in a HAc-NaAc buffer solution at pH 4.5 with n_(Cu(Ⅱ) )∶n _(5-NO_2-PADMA )=1∶2. The apparent molar absorptivity is 3.24×10~4 L·mol~(-1)·cm~(-1)at 550 nm and beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0~1.4 mg/L for Cu .The recovery of standard addition for copper is 99%~102% with precision of less than 0.7% RSD(n=5) .The method has been applied to the determination of copper in aluminum alloys and ores with satisfactory results.
