Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical application value and technical essentials, and the best way for increasing success rates and avoiding complications of ultrasound-guided percutaneous lung biopsy. Methods Retrospective analysis of 98 patients with peripheral pulmonary lesions who underwent ultrasound-guided percutaneous lung biopsy was performed. Results Successful procedures were performed in all the patients with 18G core needles.Positive diagnosis was established in 93.88%(92/98) of the diagnostic materials. The average aspiration sessions needed for each patient were 2.3 times and aspiration depths were 1.8—5.7 cm with 0.3—2.0 cm variations of the specimens. There were 41 patients with adenocarcinoma,27 with squamous cell carcinoma,9 with small cell lung cancer,2 with renal cancer metastatic to the lung,8 with tuberculosis,5 with abscess, while 6 patients were found to be negative. The complications included pleural reaction in 4 patients, pneumothorax in 1 patient and postoperative blood sputum in 2 patients. Conclusion Ultrasound-guided percutaneous lung biopsy is safe, and offers a high diagnostic rate for the peripheral pulmonary lesions.
