Studies on Several Questions of Sentence Meaning

Abstract

Sentence meaning is an important part in sentence semantics. We put forward several questions about sentence meaning: Is sentence meaning compositional like lexical meaning? How many semantic roles are there in a language? How to classify verbs according to semantic roles? What are the relationship between semantic roles and syntactic relations? What is the role of semantic roles in paraphrases? Then we express our opinions about these questions,hoping to make the study of sentence meaning deeper and more systematic.
