Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of nicotine on the activity of microglia induced by lipopolysaccharideslps (LPS) in the brain of mice.Methods 32 mice were divided averagely into control, nicotine(NIC),LPS, NIC+LPS groups randomly. The positive microglia with CD11b antibody in cerebral cortex,hippocampus and substantia nigra were deteced by immunohistochemistry.Results The positive microglia with CD11b expression in NIC were similar to those in control,higher in LPS and NIC+LPS groups than in control,much lower in NIC+LPS groups than in LPS. Conclusion Chronic nicotine exposure can inhibit the activity of microglia induced by LPS in the brain of mice,which suggests that nicotine may have the protective effect on inflammatory reaction by LPS treatment.
