Abstract

Objective To assess the exaqmination values of high-frequency color doppler ultrasonography for congenital abnomal development of vertebral artery. Methods A total of 77 cases with vertebrobasilar insufficiency were examined using high-frequency ultrasonography. The vascular morphological changes and hemodynimics of the vertebral artery were observed. Results In the cases with doubtful vertebrobasilar insufficiency, the rate of congenital abnomal development of vertebral artery is 31%,the rate of congenital stenosis of vertebral artery in one side is 27%,the entry position of vertebral artery into the foramen of transverse process of cervical vertebrae are abnormal in 3 cases, vertebral artery was C bends in 1case.Conclusion High-frequency ultrasonography can display Extracranial vertebral artery clearly,so congenital abnomal development of vertebral artery can be estimate by high-frequency ultrasonography. The color Doppler ultrasonography may become a general examination method for the vertigo.
