Abstract

Objective To study the antibiotic-resistance and pulse-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE)type of Shigella strains isolated from Gansu province in 2006-2009.Methods 470 strains of Shigella isolated from Gansu province in 2006-2009 were identified by biochemistry and sero-typing methods, and antibiotic-resistance and molecular typing were tested using PFGE and K-B methods. Results Shigella flexneri was still the predominant serogroup in Gansu province;serotype Fxv isolates accounted for most of the Shigella flexneri strains(44.5%),followed by 2a serotype(33.1%).All the S.flexneri and S.sonnei strains were resistant to Ampicillin,Tetracycline and Rifampicin(90.3-100%).CN0200 was the predomiant PFGE pulsetype of Shigella flexneri;S.flexneri strains with the same serotype having the simillar PFGE pulsetypes, and could be classified to one group. Conclusions The serotype,antibiotic-resistance and PFGE character of Shigella strains isolated from Gansu province were demonstrated in this study. The results will play a key role in clinical treatment, especially in preventing and controlling bacterial dysentery in Gansu and China.
