Markedness Patterns and Implicational Universals

Markedness and implicational universals are important concepts in typology with cross-linguistic evidence. Typological marking theory differs from Prague School marking theory in that it emphasizes relative and correlative markedness patterns while the latter allows for only one sort of patterns with binary values. Markedness patterns are closely related to implicational universals. They can be formulated in implicational universals, which describes a restriction on possible language types that limits linguistic variation.
