Clinical observation of Triamcinolone Acetonide combined Chinese medicine in treating cystoid macular edema

OBJECTIVE To analyze the therapeutic effect of using triamcinolone acetonide together with Chinese medicine on the treatment of cystoid macular edema.METHODS Fifty-four patients(61 eyes)with cystoid macular edema caused by retinal vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy were randomly divided into two groups.Patients in the treatment group were treated by triamcinolone acetonide together with Chinese medicine,while the control group used only triamcinolone acetonide.RESULTS After two weeks treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups.With a period of three to six months,significant differences appeared and the therapeutic effect in the treatment group was obviously better then the control group.After six-month-treatment,the effective rate of the treatment group was 83.9%,while the control group was only 30.0%.CONCLUSIONS Using triamcinolone acetonide together with Chinese medicine in the treatment of cystoid macular edema was more effective than using only triamcinolone acetonide,and had a long-term better efficacy and low recurrence rate.
