Abstract
Objective To describe a new operative procedure for the treatment of gluteus contracture Methods The contracted gluteus was relaxed and the hip flexion disturbance, external rotation as well as abduction of the hip were improved by descending transplantation of the origin of gluteus Results Twenty eight cases of gluteus contracture were treated and followed up for 6 months to 10 years All deformities had been corrected and hip function recovered to normal or nearly normal Conclusion In comparison with the methods of conventional treatment , this procedure has several advantages: relaxation is complete and operation is simple The possibility of injury of blood vessel and nerve in gluteus can be avoided, because the field of operation lie in the origin of iliac crest mucles Post operatively external fixation is not necessary and the patients could practice their hip joint in 48-72 hours Both the post operative care and sufferings of the affected children were alleviated
