Abstract
In this study,it was found that NaCl treatment at 28℃ in the dark for 5d significantly decreased the survival percentage of maize seedlings compared with the control, indicating that this salt stress caused injury which affected survival percentage and longevity of maize seedlings. GR activity had been changed during this salt treatment. The activity of GR displayed first rise slightly in early stress stage then declined significantly following the prolonged stress duration in maize seedlings. Examination of soluble protein content in the enzyme extracts , it was found that NaCl treatment decreased the protein content of maize seedlings, indicating salt stress impel degradation of protein, These suggest that antioxidant enzyme takes part in the formation of salt tolerance at the first stage of drought stress, but the increase of stress and the decrease of protein content result in the decrease of GR activty during the final stage of salt stress.
