Abstract

According to the actual conditions of Haokou hydropower station,a three-dimensional finite element model was developed for the typical non-overflow section of Haokou concrete gravity dam.Based on the static field of the dam,the dynamic analysis results obtained from the response spectrum method were superimposed with the static analysis results determined by the normal storage of the dam, which provided the dam stress under the static and dynamic forces. The strength and ability against sliding of the dam were analyzed and evaluated using the rigid body limit equilibrium theory. The results demonstrated that the strength of the dam meets the standard requirement under the design earthquake action. The safety factor against sliding the dam foundation was 4.4,which was greater than the minimum safety factor allowed by the standard, and therefore the dam is safe.
