Abstract

In contemporary Chinese poetry, most of the poem written by those from the school of Tong-Guang-Ti under the rein of Emperors Tong Zhi Guang Xu respectively in the Tsing Dynasty are met with serious criticisms. But as a key figure of the school in Fujian Province at the time, CHEN's poetry collection named Cang Qu Lou comprising over 800 poems are seldom read or reviewed. It is acknowledged that to study CHEN's political attitudes or standpoint towards the Republic of China and the then false government of Man backed by Japanese invaders is a matter fairly sensitive and undoubtedly unavoidable. It is, however, a key to the overall evaluation of the ideology and art in CHEN's poetry.
