Abstract

【Objective】 To evaluate the short-term and long-term effect of early intervention of neural growth factor(NGF) on hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in neonatal rats. 【Methods】 7-day-old SD rats(n=90) were randomly divided into three groups:contral group(n=30,sham-operation),HIBD group(n=30),NGF group(n=30).1 000 U/kg of NGF was administrated for 7 times every 24 h immediately after HIBD.The morphology and apoptosis cells in hippocampus associated with Morris water maze were used to evaluate the effect of intervention. 【Results】 Swollen neurons, damaged tissue structure of hippocampus and low long-term studying and memory capacity were observed in HIBD group. The number of necrosis cells and stage of latency in Morris water maze increased significantly(P0.01) compared with contral group. In comparison with HIBD group, less apoptosis cells, shorter stage of latency and longer detention time(P0.01) on platform were significantly observed in NGF group. 【Conclusion】 It is suggested that early intervention of NGF can relieve HIBD and improve the long-term studying and memory ability efficiently.
