Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of family involvement in health education for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods One hundred patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into two groups. The patients in the control group received conventional diabetes education, while the patients in the experimental group receiving family involved health education for six months. The fasting blood glucose,2h postprandial blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and self-care behaviors were measured before and after education. Results After education, the patients' fasting blood glucose,2h postprandial blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin in the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P0.05).The score of self-care behaviors in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P0.01).Conclusions Family involvement in health education is more beneficial to the blood glucose control and the improvement of self-care behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes.
