Abstract
The supported heteropoly acid catalysts with phosphorus acid and silicon acid loaded on Hβ zeolite were prepared by impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by IR and TPD and their esterification activity was determined in a batch reactor through synthesis of n-butyl lactate. The results showed that the supported heteropoly acid catalysts had more bronsted acid sites than Hβ zeolite. The catalytic activity increased with the loading of phosphotungstic acid, and on 40% phosphotungstic acid/Hβ catalyst, the esterification yield was up to 98.29% after reaction of 2 hours under appropriate reaction condition.GC-MS measurements showed that the product obtained by supported heteropoly acid catalyst had less impurities than that by concentrated sulfuric acid.
