Abstract

[Objective]To describe the prevalence of hypertension in rural older population and analyze the underlying risk factors,in order to provide data for the control of hypertension among the aged population.[Methods]Investigation and analysis was conducted among the population aged over 60 randomly selected from rural community in Changzhou from 2004 to 2005.[Results]A total of 4 976 older people were investigated and analyzed. The prevalence, awareness, treatment and control rate of hypertension were 53.68%,67.35%,54.77% and 18.23% respectively. The rate of overweight, obesity,IFG,diabetes, higher triglyceride, high cholesterol, low high density lipoprotein-cholesterol and abnormal blood lipids was 29.88%,9.28%,7.25%,9.20%,12.46%,24.04%,4.56% and 33.66% respectively. The results of the logistic regression showed that old age, large waistline, high BMI,high serum 1ipids and glucose and family history were the dangerous factors of hypertension.[Conclusion]The prevalence of hypertension was high in rural older population.Weight, serum 1ipids and glucose control were the important measures to reduce hypertension among rural older population.
