Abstract
[Objective] To explore the changes of intercellular adhesion moleculel-1 (ICAM-1) and apoptosis and its correlation in neonatal rats with hypoxic ischemic brain damage (HIBD) . [Methods] Sixty aged 7 days old SD rats were divided into two groups: normal (n = 30), with sham operation and HI(n = 30), HIBD operation. The ICAM-1 and the apoptosis of brain cell were measured at the time of 6,12,24,48 h and 7 d after operation by the methods of immunohistochemistry and Tunel respectively. [Results] Compared with normal, the positive cell of ICAM-1 and the number of apoptosis cells in the brain of HI increased significantly at 12 h and up to the top level at 24 h and 48 h after HIBD operating. The correlation coefficient between ICAM-1 and apoptosis (r=0. 829,P0. 01). [Conclusion] The expression of ICAM-1 and the number of apoptosis cells in the brain with HIBD neonatal rats increased and a high positive liner correlation was obtained between the ICAM-1 and the number of apoptosis cells.
