Abstract

Based on the recent hydrologic data and the seabed evolution, the numerical model was validated. The movements of tidal current and sediment in Dagangwan bay were simulated, and the deposition volume in port basin was calculated. The results show that the sediment source is mainly from the shoal caused by ebb current. The effect in reducing sediment silting is not obvious by the breakwater near the harbor basin entrance. However, the sediment silting is decreased by two-thirds after construction of the cofferdam rear the bay.The cofferdam can prevent the sediment from the shoal to the harbor.Meanwhile, the Dagangwan bay will be the semienclosed harbor with the weak current, less sediment and slight siltation, and it will be an excellent harbor by some corresponding measures.
