On the Modernity of the Translation of Short Stories in Late Qing Dynasty——A Case Study of Collection of Foreign Short Stories by ZHOU Brothers

In the pursuit of literary modernity in short stories in late Qing Dynasty,the translation of foreign works plays an important historical role.In 1909,ZHOU brothers(LU Xun and ZHOU Zuo-ren) together translate Collection of Foreign Short Stories which includes 16 translations and four types of short story structural pattern.This leads to a breakthrough of traditional Chinese short stories which are centered on plot.Due to various reasons,this collection does not cast great influence,but the modernity of Chinese literature therefore dates back to ten years earlier.
