On the Arbitrariness of Linguistic Signs

Abstract
With an analysis of the arbitrariness of linguistic signs from five aspects: the arbitrariness between signifier and signified,bidirectional nature of arbitrariness,the existence of empty signs,the flexibility of signified and non-complete arbitrariness of onomatopoeic words and compound words,the paper points out the importance to realize the conventionality of linguistic signs and to understand the nature of arbitrariness at the same time.
