Abstract
The efficacy,side-reaction of copper IUD,mifepristone and levonorgestrel in emergency contraception were studied, and the influence of these contraceptive devices on menstruation was also observed.150 cases healthy women were given with oral Ru486(10mg),copper intrauterine device(IUD) or levonorgestrel (0.75mg taken in two equal doses 12 hours apart) respectively, after sexual intercourse within 120 hours without contraception or failed contraception. The results showed that the effective rates of Ru486 and copper IUD for emergency contraception were both 100%,while the levonorgestrel group was 76.88%(Calculation with Dixon method). The influence of the emergency contraception on both menstruation and the side reaction were light. The data suggest that the three methods for emergency contraception were high efficacy, safety. The copper IUD insertion has no complications and can be used for up to 10 years.
