Advances in the research of new fungicides for postharvest use of citrus

Abstract

Chemical control has been the main way to control postharvest diseases of citrus until now. Recently, fludioxonil, azoxystrobin and pyrimethanil as reduced-risk compounds have been registered for citrus postharvest treatments for decay control in many countries. Because their mode of actions against postharvest fungal pathogens are different from the old fungicides, they are effective to control isolates resistant to old fungicides, and solve the problem that old fungicides lose effectiveness. Here, this article reviews the advance of new fungicides safely and effectively applied into control of postharvest citrus diseases, including mode of actions, the range of disease controlled, maximum residue limits, risk of fungicide resistance and fungicide usage strategies.
