Abstract

The aim of criminal punishment is a proposition that has both theoretical and practical values.The monism that the aim of criminal punishment is to prevent crimes is a generally accepted theory in the academy of criminal law. But this viewpoint has been facing challenges.In establishing the theory of the aim of criminal punishment in a scientific way, some basic categories should be clearly defined be clearly defined,and at the same time, the position and connotation of the theory of the aim of criminal punishment in the criminal law should be made clear. From the situation of china, the author believes that the aim of criminal punishment includes three hierarchies, which are punishment of crimes, prevention of crimes and protection of legal interests.
