Analyses of Fairy Imagery of Short Stories of Tang Dynasty

It is an indisputable fact that the love and marriage story is regarded as “the treasures” of the novel in Tang Dynasty. In these kinds of texts, the love story of the person and the immortal also is an inseparable part. The plot of the person loved the immortal in Tang short stories, the immortal role mostly acted by the female. Overall, these fairies may divide into two kinds, one kind is the fairy on the space and goddess in the world, the other is the prostitute and so on, who analogied as the fairy. Analyzed these two kinds of fairies imagery, from the cultural connotation in which it is contained, we could discover the obvious difference in the expression emphasis between them. It concretely showed in the version when the fairy fell in love with the man in the world, it reflected the social life from the female side; But in those texts which the goddess in the world loved the man, it turned to reflect the objective reality from the masculine angle.
