Abstract
The fire prevention and recovery capability of artificial management of phyllostachys pubescens were studied in order to select the excellent tree species for afforestation of fire prone areas. The analysis showed that artificial management of phyllostachys pubescens pure forest had following characteristics: ①the lower part of main stalk with no branch;shedding leaves every other year;few dead branches in forest;and the undergrowth vegetation with small living space;not easy to cause fire.②the surface fire could not cause great damage to the main stalk, not burning the bamboo shoots in 16 ~ 30 cm soil layer.③sustainable utilization, that is even if the whole forest was burnt up,the bamboo shoots protected by the soil still could grow to forest under suitable conditions. Therefore, phyllostachys pubescens is not only a kind of excellent economic tree species, but alse has excellent capacity of fire prevention and recovery capability.
