Abstract
Objective To understand the characteristics and trend of injuries among population of urban and rural areas in Fujian province. Methods Data from annual Fujian health statistics(1991-1999)were analyzed. Results The overall mortality of injury in urban areas increased from 29 86/10 6 to 40 83/10 6 and in rural areas it increased from 64 19/10 6 to 75\^20/10\+6.Injury was the fourth leading causes of death in urban and rural areas. The rural death rate of injury was about 2\^5 times of that in urban.Children below 1 year old and people above 60 years old showed the highest rates. The death rate of men was higher than that of women. The ratio was 1\^25-1\^99 in urban areas and 1\^21-1\^53 in rural areas. The first three leading causes of death of injury in urban areas were traffic accident, fall and suicide, while in rural areas were suicide, traffic accident and drowning. The mortality of traffic accident and suicide was increased in urban areas, the mortality of suicide was decreased in rural areas. Conclusion The prevention of injury should be very important.
