Abstract
It has been controversial if musical belongs to opera.This article expounds on the origin,general characteristics,aesthetic features and genre of musical and opera.The idea that musical cannot be put on a list of opera,and musical should be independent of opera and exist as a coordinate kind of music drama like opera are put forward in this paper.
