The Concepts of "Dao" in Book of Changes and Laozi

Abstract

Although the Dao and its Fan and Fu in Book of Changes and Laozi are similar not only in expressions but in connotations as well, there are some differences in them. The Dao in Laozi is a point, which is the cause of reproduction, but the Dao in Book of Changes is a circle, which is what is reproduced. Similarly, the Dao in Laozi is water, and that of Book of Changes means water too. Fan and Fu in Book of Changes are synonyms, but they are antonyms in Laozi.
