Observation on the Effect of Retrograde Lacrimal Intubation on Chronic Dacryocystitis

Objective To investigate the efficacy of retrograde lacrimal intubation for the treatment of chronic dacryocystitis.Methods 49 patients(56 eyes) with chronic dacryocystitis from May 2012 to August 2013 were retrospectively analyzed.All cases were given retrograde lacrimal intubation with local anesthesia, and the efficacies were observed. Results All operations on patients were conducted successfully,and the silicone drainage tube was removed after placing for 3 ~6 months. The lacrimal ducts of 49 out of 56 eyes were unobstructed when the tube was removed, with an efficiency of 91%. Conclusion The results show that retrograde lacrimal intubation is an easy and effective method on treating chronic dacryocystitis,which is suitable for clinical application.
