Abstract
In order to reconcile the contradiction between high-yield and water saving of the winter wheat in Huanghuaihai Plain of China,it is necessary to find out one high-yield and water saving cropping pattern. To study the effect of planting patterns and irrigation frequency on population dynamics, grain yield, and water use efficiency(WUE)in 2013—2014winter wheat growing season, two planting patterns were designed,i.e.wide-precision planting and conventional-cultivation planting. These plantings were treated with three irrigation treatments,i.e.irrigated 120 mm only at jointing stage, irrigated 60 mm each at jointing and heading stages, and irrigated 40 mm each at jointing, heading and milking stages. The results indicated that the tillers extinction in the wide-precision planting pattern was significantly reduced, compared with the conventional-cultivation planting, and the wide-precision planting irrigated 120 mm only at jointing stage and irrigated 60 mm each at jointing and heading stage had the higher grain yield and WUE,which could be attributed to increase in spike numbers and significant reduction of both soil water and total water consumption caused by reducing irrigation times. The wide-precision irrigated 60 mm each at jointing and heading stages of winter wheat is recommended in Huanghuaihai Plain.
