Abstract

Objective To investigate the hygienic status of drinking water in rural area of Yuhagn district, and to know the drinking water's quality in the whole Yahang district by detecting the mutagenicity of the source water and tap water from two waterworks. Methods The basic situation investigation on drinking water in rural area of Yuhang district was performed.224 samples were collected from 20 representative monitoring points which be sampled during wet season and dry season including source water, tap water, pipe network water and scattered water supply. The water quality was evaluated referring to Drinking Water Quality Health Norms(2001) by the national health ministry.Ames test was used to detect the mutagenicity of source water and tap water from two waterworks. Results The passing rate was 43.29%(42/97) for complete purified water and 22.83%(29/127) for incomplete purified water, respectively, showing statistically significant difference(χ2=4.12,P0.05).Ames test showed positive results in strains TA98(mutation ratio≥2) when the concentration of organic extract substance from H waterworks' source water reached 5.0L per plate with and without S9,.While the concentrations of organic extract substance from H waterworks' tap water at both 5.0 and 2.5 L per plate with and without S9 could induce positive mutagenic results. Conclusions Incomplete purified water has low passing rate. The mutagencity exists in the source water and tap water from H waterworks.
