Abstract
Competitive adsorption,which is still not well studied,commonly exists in the natural system.In this paper,Binary Competitive sorption equilibria were measured in 8 concentration levels of phenanthrene or naphthalene.Results indicate that the adsorption behavior of phenanthrene or naphthalene on the same sorbent with competing solute is distinctly different from its single adsorption behaviors.The isotherms of naphthalene and phenanthrene become more linear and the capacity of the isotherm becomes lower as a function of the competing solute concentrations.It appears that the large-size and more hydrophobic phenanthrene competes favorably with the small-size and relatively less hydrophobic naphthalene.
