Abstract

Wetland ecosystems are one of the major types of territorial ecosystems on the earth,and are estimated to contain 20% of C in global territorial ecosystems.Natural wetland ecosystems were often considered as a sink of free C from the atmosphere,due to the low decomposition rates of its plant residues.However,when wetland ecosystems are exploited,such as,into farming lands,a large quantity of C accumulated would be released into the atmosphere.That changes in wetland ecosystems largely affected global C cycling and also possibly global climatic changes.In this paper,the interactions between C cycling in wetland ecosystems and responses as a sink or source of CO2 in the atmosphere were discussed.We also viewed the progresses in C cycling processes with main factors and simulating models for C cycling in wetland ecosystems.Future studies on the processes of C cycling and simulating models for wetland ecosystems were briefly addressed.
