Research Progress on Evaluating Ecosystem Services of China Grassland

Grassland ecosystem is the biggest one in China terrestrial ecosystems, and plays special role in maintaining the structure, functions and ecological processes of natural ecosystems. At present, a series of ecological problems are becoming more and more serious because of grassland degradation in some regions. One of the essential reasons is that some important ecological functions of grassland ecosystem and their values are neglected. The economic valuation of grassland ecosystem services, especially the regulating and supporting services that are remarkable but unfamiliar by public, will help to the conservation, reclamation and rational development of grassland resources in China.The paper clarified the connotation of grassland ecosystem services function and described evaluating status that the ecosystem services of China grassland after A.D.2003 or proposed frame of the millennium ecosystem, at the same time, it summarized existing problems and direction for research.It will establish foundation for evaluating the ecosystem services of China grassland in Region and nationwide.
