Comparison of the effects of losartan and amlodipine on plasma leptin and norepinephrine in hypertensive obese patients

Objective Aim of this study was to compare the effect of losartan and amlodipine on blood pressure (BP),plasma leptin (L) and plasma norepinephrine (NE) in obese hypertensive patients.Methods The radioimmunoassay method was used to determine the level of plasma leptin,the plasma NE levels were determined by high performance liquid chroma-tography (HPLC).Results The levels of plasma leptin was signify-cantly decreased in losartan group as compared to before treating(P0.05),but there was no difference in amlodipine group.The levels of plasma NE was significantly increased in amlodipine group as compared to before treating(P0.01),but there was no difference in losartan group(P0.05).Conclusions These results suggest that losartan might offer an advantage over amlodipine in obese hypertensive patients,since losartan may help to improve obesity-related disorders in addition to lowering Bp.
