Abstract

Objective To study an effective therapy of lingual flap and buccal fat pad on reconstruction of the gerontism buccal defects. Methods Thirty-six cases with gerontism buccal defects were divided into lingual flap group and buccal fat pad group, eighteen cases in each group. Buccal defects were repaired with lingual flap in lingual flap group and repaired with buccal fat pad in buccal fat pad group. Then follow-up visit 1 -12 months after the operation, the condition of cut concrescence and postoperative complications were observed. Results The effective rates were 100. 00% and 94. 50% ( 17 /18) respectively in lingual flap group and buccal fat pad group. Both rates of two groups' complications were 16. 67% ( 3 /18). There was no statistical significance between the differences ( P 0. 05). Conclusion The lingual flap and buccal fat pad with minimal donor site morbidi-ties,few complications, minimal risks and other advantages, can be popularized in clinical application for the indication of buccal defects.
