Features of carotid artery disease in elderly hypertension and relatiouship between carotid atherosclerosis and ischemic cerebrovascular disease occurrence

Objective:To investigate the pathological changes in elderly hypertensive patients with carotid artery disease and rela-tionship between carotid atherosclerosis and ischemic cerebrovascular disease occurrence.Methods:To select 68 cases of elderly hyper-tension and 30 normal people wich the same age.Among them 32 patients with hypertension were complicated with ischemic cerebrovas-cular disease.Color Doppler was used to observe the carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT)and plaque situation.Results:In the hy-pertensive patients,the incidence rate of carotid artery intima-media thickening and atherosclerotic plaque was significantly higher,with statistically significant difference compared with the controls.The degree of carotid atherosclerosis in the patients complicated with is-chemic cerebrovascular disease was severe and the hard spats were more common than the soft spots.Conclusion:The carotid artery atherosclerosis severity and incidence of primary hypertension has positive relationship.Carotid atherosclerosis is closely related to is-chemic cerebrovascular disease.
